Delegation History[edit | edit source]
In 2014, NIC-Mauritanie was established under the Université de Nouakchott to manage the day-to-day operations of the Mauritanian TLDs, .mr and موريتانيا., for which the Université de Nouakchott was responsible since the .mr's initial delegation in 1996. In 2016, the Université de Nouakchott Al Aasriya (UNA) was established, merging the Université de Nouakchott and the Université des Sciences, de Technologie et de Médecine. The new public university assumed management of the TLDs.
On February 27, 2017, the IDN Fast Track DNS Stability Panel concluded that the string موريتانيا posed no threat to the stability or security of the DNS, nor did it present significant risk of user confusion.
On July 12, 2018, UNA commenced a request for the delegation of موريتانيا. as a top-level domain, which was granted.[2]
