Achievements

Nick Wenban-Smith is the chair of the ccNSO DNS Abuse Standing Committee.[1] He is also Nominet's General Counsel. In this capacity, he is lead counsel for Nominet and in addition, oversees the .UK registry dispute resolution processes and the organization's internet governance participation. He has been with Nominet since 2007 and has therefore seen a lot of changes in the internet and domain name sectors. Wenban-Smith is a member of the ccNSO Council and is active within CENTR and IGF and the Law Society's Intellectual Property Committee. In his spare time, Nick enjoys competitive triathlon-related activities.

Career History

  • 2007 - to date: Nominet UK. Roles held include Senior Legal Counsel, Company Secretary, and General Counsel.
  • 2003 - 2007: Company Secretary and General Counsel, Huntswood CTC Limited. Financial services outsourcing company majority-owned by private equity investment.
  • 1999 - 2003: Director of Legal Services, PowderJect Pharmaceuticals PLC. Oxford University's most successful biotech spinout, sold in 2003 for GPB550 million.
  • Variety of private practice roles in London and Reading prior to becoming an in-house counsel.

Education

Natural Sciences undergraduate degree from Christ's College, Cambridge University, with a specialism in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
